The i'iwi (pronounced "ee-EE-vee") is a striking scarlet-red Hawaiian honeycreeper with black wings, a tail, and a long curved peach-colored bill. 

Listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, it is now primarily found in high-elevation native mountain forests above 4,000 feet on Hawaiʻi Island, Maui, and Kauaʻi

Acts as an essential pollinator for native Hawaiian flora through co-evolved bill shapes.

Historically, the sacred bright red feathers were gathered to craft elaborate ceremonial capes, helmets, and adornments for Hawaiian nobility
